Teen Falls to Death in Tribeca

A teenage girl is dead after falling from a fire escape in Tribeca.

"She was a lovely girl and it's just heartbreaking," one woman told WOR's Alice Stockton-Rossini.

Imogen Roche, 15, was at a party in a 5th floor apartment on Reade Street on Sunday night when she went to get her phone in another room.  The room was locked, so the teen climbed out to the fire escape to try to enter the room through a window.

Roche apparently slipped and fell five stories to the sidewalk below.  She was pronounced dead at Bellevue Medical Center.

"I can't even believe it.  Fifteen years old.  It's crazy.  It's very sad," one man said.

The principal of PS 150 said she worked with Roche's father.  She said she's devastated.

"He needs a lot of support.  I'm going to call him today - go visit him.  I walk down this street every day when I get off the subway.  I just was dreading it," the principal said.

Police are investigating.

"I can't even think right now.  It's terrible.  It's very sad.  I just got back from vacation last night, 2 o'clock in the morning, and I just saw this," one woman said.
