Mayor de Blasio Praises Uber Cap

Mayor Bill de Blasio is celebrating passage of a City Council plan that will limit the growth of Uber in New York City.

“The City is sending a clear message: we’re putting hardworking New Yorkers ahead of corporations,” Mayor de Blasio said.

The City Council voted this week to freeze new licenses for Uber and other for-hire vehicles.  Advocates believe the plan will ease congestion in the city and help financially struggling taxi drivers.

“We are taking immediate action for the benefit of more than 100,000 hard-working New Yorkers who deserve a fair wage, and halting the flood of new cars grinding our streets to a halt,” Mayor de Blasio said.

The mayor attended a rally on Thursday to celebrate the plan.
