The NYPD is issuing a warning about a toxic strain of K2 which has sickened 49 people in Brooklyn since this weekend.
“K2 is a dangerous, deadly drug, but this strain is especially threatening. All residents who live near these five locations are warned about exceedingly dangerous K2 batches in circulation, and advised to avoid usage,” Chief of Department Terence Monahan said.
The locations of the overdoses include 2570 Fulton Street, where 21 people have become sick. Another 15 people have overdosed in the area of Broadway and Myrtle Avenue.
“In order to fix this problem of narcotics on Myrtle and Broadway, we’re going to have intense police action here,” NYPD Assistant Chief Jeffrey Maddrey said in a video posted on Twitter.
He said the NYPD is setting up a command center in the area to keep 24-hour surveillance. Multiple overdoses have also happened at 599 Ralph Avenue, 2402 Atlantic Avenue and 2399 Van Sinderen Avenue.
Witnesses said people sickened by K2 stumble around like zombies before passing out. In recent days, police have arrested 13 people in connection with the overdoses.
“Residents are urged to call 911 immediately if they or someone they know are showing symptoms of overdoses,” Chief Monahan said.
