Bullpen Wastes Great Effort By deGrom, Nats win 8-6

  • Jacob deGrom was very much the ace the Mets expect him to be as the righthander was spectacular against the Nats, unfortunately the Bullpen couldn’t do their part for really the first time this season.
  • One mistake was all he made, and it was a heck of an effort, as Bryce Harper hit a broken bat home run to one of the deepest parts of CitiField.
  • The Mets, like they have all year, came right back when Todd Frazier singled in a run in the second, then doubled in a run in the third to give the Mets a 2-1 lead.
  • The Mets extended their lead in the 6th inning when they played some small ball, plating two runs on a safety squeeze and a fielder’s choice and in the 7th Asdrubal Cabrera stroked a two run HR to give the Mets a 6-1 lead.
  • Jacob deGrom’s night ended in the top of the 8th, after his 12th k of the night, he was lifted after allowing two singles, but a brilliant night altogether. Unfortunately, it would fall apart after this.
  • Seth Lugo came on and walked Howie Kendrick to load the bases for Bryce Harper. Jerry Blevins came on to face Harper, and Harper singled to score two runs and cut the game to 6-3.
  • AJ Ramos was summoned from the Pen, loaded the bases and walked in a run to make it 6-4
  • Jeurys Familia was summoned with the bases still loaded with two outs, gave up a two-run single, then walked in the go ahead run to give the Nats a 7-6 lead.
  • Hansel Robles added fuel to the fire giving up a solo Home Run to Howie Kendrick in the 9th to make it 8-6 Nats.
  • Mets couldn’t muster anything in the 9th and even made a baserunning blunder. A frustrating end to a rough night.
  • Game two of three against the Nationals tonight at CitiField. First pitch 7:10, Mets on Deck at 6:05
