De Blasio Wins Second Term

It’s going to be another four years in office for Mayor Bill de Blasio.

He easily defeated Republican Nicole Malliotakis in Tuesday’s election to win a second term as mayor.  De Blasio won 65 percent of the vote compared to 29 percent for Malliotakis.

“Everyone in this city went to the polls tonight and sent a message loud and clear:  this is your city,” de Blasio said.

The mayor touted his accomplishments during his first four years in office, including pre-k and lower crime.  For his second term, de Blasio said getting a millionaire’s tax to fix the subway system will be a priority.

“I’ve seen how many people we can reach.  I’ve seen how much better we can make this city.  We can make this the city it was meant to be.  We are only just getting started,” de Blasio said.

Malliotakis conceded the race on Tuesday night and promised to keep fighting for New Yorkers.
