In a bid to curtail the violence in Rikers Island's "Central Punitive Segregation Unit" prison officials have started giving pizza to those inmates who behave themselves. The CPSU at Rikers houses 400 of NYC's most violent criminals.
The Correction Department said two slices of pizza for 75 of the best-behaved prisoners costs approximately $400 dollars.
The pizza parties have helped the prison reach a key milestone in the work skills programs and have helped reduced attacks on Corrections Officers by 65%
