NYPD Increases Security After Barcelona Attack

Security is being increased at high profile locations around New York City following the deadly terror attack in Barcelona.

The NYPD is using cameras, license plate readers and other censors to track potentially suspicious vehicles.  There are also additional cement barriers set up around the city.

Critical response vehicles were also redeployed to key locations out of an “abundance of caution.”  The NYPD said there’s no specific threat, but they feel the extra security is important and reassuring.

Governor Andrew Cuomo directed that One World Trade Center be lit in the colors of the Spanish flag on Thursday night to honor victims of the Barcelona attack.

“This cowardly and senseless attack is sickening and goes against everything we believe. Those who seek to reap fear and hate will never succeed. New York stands in solidarity with the people of Spain - as they have done for us,” Governor Cuomo said.
