NYPD Officer Killed in “Unprovoked Attack”

A New York City police officer has been killed after she was shot early Wednesday morning in the Bronx.

Miosotis Familia, 48, was sitting inside a vehicle at East 183rd Street and Morris Avenue when the suspect fired through the window at 12:30 a.m.  The 12-year veteran was shot in the head and her partner radioed for help.

“Based on what we know right now, it is clear this was an unprovoked attack on police officers who were assigned to keep the people of this great city safe,” Police Commissioner James O’Neill said.

That suspect has been identified as 34-year-old Alexander Bonds.  He was killed by responding officers not far from the original shooting scene.

The officer was pronounced dead at St. Barnabas Hospital.  Mayor Bill de Blasio met with her family there.

“She was on duty serving this city, protecting people, doing what she believed in and doing the job she loved,” de Blasio said.

A bystander was shot in the stomach and is hospitalized in stable condition.
