Mets Blow 5-1 Lead; Lose 6-5 to Padres

Robert Gsellman held the Padres to just three runs on six over six innings, but the bullpen could not hold the lead for the Mets and they fell to San Diego 6-5.

Wilmer Flores hit a bases clearing double in the bottom of the third to give the Mets a 3-1 lead, Curtis Granderson would follow with an RBI single and Michael Conforto would add a run with and RBI single in the fourth. Gsellman would surrender a 2-run double to Solarte but got through the sixth before turning the game over to the bullpen.

The Padres would load the bases off Fernando Salas in the seventh before Neil Ramirez would come on to try and get the fiinal out. Wil Myers would need just one pitch to rip a game-tying 2-run single. In the eighth, Hunter Renfroe crushed a solo home run off Josh Smoker giving the Padres a 6-5 lead.

The Mets will look to take the rubber-game on Thursday evening at Citi Field. Coverage on WOR begins at 6:05 pm with Pete McCarthy & 'Mets on Deck'.
