An 87-year-old woman has died after a fire at an apartment building on the Upper West Side on Thursday morning.
It broke out around 1:30 a.m. at the building on Columbus Avenue. The victim was apparently smoking and that cigarette may have sparked the fire.
The woman was found unconscious and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Four firefighters suffered minor injuries.
