NYC Schools Canceled Ahead of Winter Storm

Winter Storm Niko is expected to bring heavy snow to the Northeast Wednesday night through Thursday.

New York City public school classes have been canceled for Thursday.

A Winter Storm Warning has been issued for a large part of the Tri-state area, with heavy snow expected to fall on Thursday, according to Weather.com.

Snow will begin falling after midnight and will become heavy around the Thursday morning rush hour. 

Between 6 to 10 inches of accumulation is expected before precipitation tapers off late Thursday afternoon.

The warning is in effect from midnight until 6 p.m. on Thursday for New York City, New Jersey, Long Island, the Lower Hudson Valley, southern New England and Philadelphia.

Snow should start falling somewhere between 3 a.m. and 5 a.m. It should be heaviest between 6 a.m. and noon. And it should end in the middle of the afternoon.
