Astorino: Trump Indictment Is "Really and Truly Weak" For a Reason

Many observers feel the indictment of former president Donald Trump by Jack Smith is noteworthy only for a paucity of serious charges. Former Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino falls squarely in that camp. He calls Smith’s indictment of Trump “really and truly weak”; however, appearing on 710 WOR’s Len Berman and Michael Riedel in the Morning program, Astorino contends there is nothing behind Smith’s indictment for a reason.

“If you look at it, the word ‘insurrection’ ain’t in there, ‘sedition’ ain’t in there, because he’s not charging him with that, Astorino told Berman and Riedel. So, he’s basically just listing things that happened [January 6th], but… a couple of weeks from now, a couple of months from now, something happens with Joe Biden… that definitely proves that he’s corrupt, then maybe there’s a superseding indictment on this that does make that stupid case, because right now it doesn’t.”

Astorino expounded on that point. “If we’re going to be put a former president in jail… it better be really, really serious and convincing to the entire country that there is no doubt that this person needs to be behind bars. Right now we’re split. Even people who don’t like him are saying, ‘Alright, I hate the guy, I don’t want him to run, I’ll never vote for him, but putting him in jail, and for something like this?’ I mean, this is stretching stuff.”
