Controversy Over MSG Facial Recognition Technology

A group of New York lawmakers are calling on Madison Square Garden to stop using facial technology software they claim is utilized to target enemies of owner James Dolan.

"This is a man who decided he controls these facilities and he is going to overtly and unapologetically use this technology to harass people," State Senator Brian Kavanaugh said

At least three lawyers claim they have been denied entry into the building because of active lawsuits.

Madison Square Garden in a statement argues the facial recognition software is being used to ensure the safety of those attending events at the arena. The group of lawmakers say the technology has nothing to do with public safety and is instead a way to "chill free speech" and violate privacy.
