Governors Island will now be open year-round beginning this year!

The 172-acre island in the New York Harbor was previously only open from May 1st - October 31st. Visitors will now be able to enjoy all four seasons on the island!

Mayor Bill de Blasio said via Twitter, "Governors Island is a jewel in New York Harbor. We’re keeping this outdoor space open 7 days a week, 365 days a year. But wait there’s more! We’re also expanding ferry service to make this island more accessible to all residents. Get out there and enjoy!"

The NYC ferry will now have additional service on the South Brooklyn Route on weekdays and non-summer weekends, on top of their existing Pier 11/Wall Street summer weekend shuttle. This means that there will be direct access to the island from Red Hook, Atlantic Ave/Brooklyn Bridge Park-Pier 6 and DUMBO/Fulton Ferry, and Corlears Hook on Manhattan’s Lower East Side.
