10 Racehorses Killed In New Jersey Turnpike Crash

Early Sunday morning turned disastrous for racehorse owners and fans as 10 racehorses being transported to New York were killed in what was described as a fiery crash on the New Jersey Turnpike.

The trailer hauling the horses hit a concrete barrier and burst into flames around 3 a.m. ET, a New Jersey state trooper confirmed to the NY Times. A cause of the crash has not yet been determined.

Drivers were treated for smoke inhalation and were released from the hospital.

One of the horses killed in the crash was Under the Oaks, who placed sixth in her first professional race in Florida recently. Another was Hot Mist, who won her debut race at Tampa Bay Downs last month.

The 2020 Belmont Stakes, in New York, will be held on June 20. Tiz The Law currently has the best odds at winning the race with +175 odds.
