MTA Approves Plan To Hire 500 More Subway Cops

The MTA has voted in favor of a budget plan that includes hiring 500 additional police officers to patrol the subway system.

The move comes amid a spike in attacks on transit workers. The MTA said the extra officers will protect the agency employees and address other issues in the system.

The vote was met by protests who complained that the homeless and minorities would be targeted by the officers. They argued that the money should be spent to improve service.
