Longtime Manhattan D.A. Robert Morgenthau Dies

Former Manhattan District Attorney Robert Morgenthau has died.

He’s the longest serving D.A. in the borough’s history, holding the office for more than 30 years. Before that, he served seven years as U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York.

Morgenthau retired from public life at the end of 2009.

Morgenthau claimed to have handled more than three million cases, including some of the biggest cases in the city, such as the Central Park jogger case and the murder of John Lennon.

Robert Morgenthau was 99 years old.
