Officer One Month Away From Retirement Found Dead In His Car

Deputy Chief Steven Silks of the 112 Precinct in Queens was found dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to his head according to several NYPD sources.

Chief Silks' body was discovered in his police-issued vehicle by a security guard who works down the street from the station-house at the West Side Tennis Club.

According to an article published in the New York Daily News, Chief Silks was found dressed in civilian clothes with a gun beside him in the front seat of the car.

Roy Richter, Head of the Captains Endowment Association said of Silks, "Steve was an incredibly dedicated and great guy. He was great at what he does. This is a terrible loss".

Police sources say that Silks had recently submitted his retirement papers at the NYPD pension office and was set to retire next month after a 39-year career in law enforcement.
