NJ Couple Face Murder Charges After Their Son Was Removed From Life Support

Burlington County Prosecutor Scott Coffina charged William Herring and Brianna Brochhausen with murder after their 4-month-old son was found smothered to death in a motel room in Springfield New Jersey.

Reading from a statement, Prosecutor Coffina told the court the couple put the child in a timeout and covered him with a blanket after he wouldn't stop crying. The couple then went out for a 10-minute smoke break and when they returned the child was unresponsive.

Police records show that the couple called 911 and performed CPR on the child until the ambulance arrived and rushed the child to Virtua Hospital in Mount Holly New Jersey. The child was later taken to the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, where he was taken off life support on March 3.

Last week a grand jury upped the initial charge of endangering the welfare of a child to first-degree murder.

According to an article published in the New York Post, New Jersey State Police Col. Patrick Callahan praised investigators for finding justice for the child and condemned the thoughtless actions of these individuals that ended up costing a defenseless 4-month-old infant his life.
