Yankees And Mets Open The Baseball Season

It’s Opening Day with the Mets and Yankees beginning the baseball season today.

The Yankees are hosting the Baltimore Orioles in the Bronx with Masahiro Tanaka on the mound. Manager Aaron Boone said Opening Day is always special.

“It’s always to me been kind of a celebration of our game. It’s a big deal to be able to walk out there and put on a Major League uniform,” Boone said.

There are high expectations for the Yankees this year, but they’ll spend all season battling the World Series champion Red Sox in the American League East.

The Mets open their season in Washington against the Nationals who lost star Bryce Harper in free agency. Jacob de Grom gets the start for the Mets after signing a 5-year contract extension that will pay him $137.5 million.

“It’s because I wanted to be here.I think that was the bottom line.I’m excited with what these guys were able to do in the offseason,” de Grom said.

New General Manager Brodie Van Wagenen said he expects this Mets team to win now and in the future.
