Taxi Drivers Upset with Congestion Fee

A new congestion fee is set to take effect in New York City in 2019, and taxi drivers aren’t happy about it.

Beginning on January 1st, a new $2.50 fee will be applied to all cab rides.  The money will go to fund MTA repairs, but taxi drivers fear it will chase their customers away.

"How are we going to survive?" one driver asked WOR's Alice Stockton-Rossini.

The additional charge is on top of a $2.50 that drivers get upfront, plus additional fees for the MTA and wheelchair-accessible cabs.

"It's ridiculous.  I don't know what to tell you," one passenger said.  "$5.80 to sit in a cab is a little ridiculous just to get started."
