Paterson Officer Killed in Crash

The Paterson Police Department is in mourning after the death of one of their own.

Officer Tamby Yagan was killed on Sunday morning after crashing his marked patrol vehicle into a parked car on Getty Avenue.  Yagan was responding to a call when the accident happened.

“We have lost one of our own in the line of duty today.  #Paterson Officer Tamby Yagan was committed to protecting and serving.  His tragic death leaves a loss for all of us.  Keep Officer Yagan’s family and friends as well as Paterson PD in your prayers,” New Jersey State PBA President Patrick Colligan said in a statement on Twitter.

It’s unclear whether Yagan died because of the crash, or whether he suffered some kind of medical emergency before the accident.  He was pronounced dead at St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center.

#BCPONJ joins area #LawEnforcement agencies in keeping our thoughts with the family, friends, and colleagues of #Paterson Police Officer Tamby Yagan, who died earlier today,” the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office said in a statement on Twitter.

No one else was injured in the accident.

An investigation continues.
