Security Increased at Mosques in NYC After Threat

A threat being circulated on social media has the Muslim community on edge on Tuesday.

An online campaign is called “Punish a Muslim Day,” with April 3rd as the specified date.

“This letter is despicable.  This letter has the energy of someone who wants to do harm,” Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams said.

The online meme suggests different wants to “punish” Muslims and assigns a point value to each action.

“This is one of the most dangerous pieces of paper I’ve seen in a very long time,” Adams said.

The NYPD has increased security at mosques in New York City as a precaution.  The Muslim community said it would not live in fear.

“I refuse to live in fear and so should you,” Debbie Almontaser with the Muslim Community Network said.
