Murphy Becomes NJ Governor

Governor Elect Phil Murphy will be sworn in today, while Governor Chris Christie is leaving office after 8 years.

Murphy participated in a day of events on Monday to mark the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday.  Murphy begins inauguration day with a church service in Trenton.  Then he’ll be sworn in at the War Memorial.

For Christie, he leaves office following 8 years of mixed results.  He won praise in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy and had many Republicans clamoring for him to run for president in 2012.

But the Bridgegate scandal and his fights with the unions took its tolls, which pushed his approval ratings down to record lows.  In 2016 he ran for president, but dropped out after a poor showing in the New Hampshire primary.
