Former President Obama Campaigns for Phil Murphy

Former President Barack Obama is returning to the campaign trail on Thursday to support Phil Murphy, the Democratic candidate for governor in New Jersey.

The two will appear together at the Robert Treat Hotel in Newark as part of a “canvass kickoff” event.  Polls show Murphy with a big lead over Republican Lieutenant Governor Kim Guadagno ahead of the November 7 election.

It’s the first time Obama will hit the campaign trail since leaving office in January.  He’s also expected to campaign for Ralph Northam, the Democrat in the race for governor of Virginia.

Former Vice Presidents Joe Biden and Al Gore have also appeared at events for Murphy.
