De Blasio Approval Rating Falls to 50 Percent

A new poll from Quinnipiac University shows that 50 percent of New Yorkers approve of the job that Mayor Bill de Blasio is doing, compared with 42 percent who don’t.

That’s down from a previous survey in May, when his job approval rating was 60 percent.  Voters are split on whether the mayor deserves reelection, but he has a comfortable 57 to 22 percent lead over Republican Nicole Malliotakis.

"Leave out the one big question - the reelection matchup - and this is a pretty bad poll for Mayor Bill de Blasio," said Maurice Carroll, assistant director of the Quinnipiac University Poll.

The poll also found that 52 percent of New Yorkers approve of the job Police Commissioner James O’Neill is doing, compared with 21 percent who don’t.
