Legislature Expected to Extend Mayoral Control

State lawmakers returned to Albany on Wednesday for an extraordinary legislative session, where they are expected to renew mayoral control of schools in New York City.

The legislature failed to do so before leaving town last week.  That meant that mayoral control would expire on Friday, with control being turned over from Mayor Bill de Blasio to 32 school boards.

On Tuesday, Governor Andrew Cuomo called for the extraordinary session.  Lawmakers are expected to agree to a one-year extension of mayoral control.
