Schumer Criticizes Anti-Terror Cuts

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer is criticizing President Donald Trump for proposed cuts to anti-terrorism programs.

Schumer said that Trump’s budget plan would cut funds to the Urban Area Security Initiative by 25 percent.  He argued that money is needed to provide extra police patrols to areas vulnerable to an attack.

“These funds are vital to New York,” Schumer said.

The Senator pointed to the recent terror attack in Manchester, saying that terrorists are still looking to exploit big cities.

“It makes absolutely no sense for the just-released Trump budget to cut the anti-terror dollars New York City uses to keep us all safe,” Schumer said.

The Obama administration also proposed a cut to the program, but later backed off those plans after a negative reaction from New York lawmakers.
