Traffic at the George Washington Bridge was brought to a standstill this morning after a deadly accident involving two trucks.

This happened around 2:30 a.m., blocking the Upper Level lanes heading into New York.  The lanes were closed for several hours, causing a line of cars that stretched for miles into New Jersey.

One lane was finally opened around 6 a.m., easing some of the congestion.  But lengthy delays continued.

Drivers have been urged to take an alternate route into New York City.

The cause of the accident is under investigation.
