According to Quinnipiac University's latest poll released on Wednesday, Eliot Spitzer has a commanding lead over Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer in the City Comptroller race. The former NY governor has a 19-point lead over Stringer after the two opponents took part in a couple heated debates this past week.

With the Sept. 10 primary getting closer, Stringer has quite a bit of ground to make up after garnering just 37 percent of the votes to Spitzer's 56 percent in Quinnipiac's new poll.

The poll was conducted between Aug. 7 and Aug. 12, so it's unclear how much of an effect, if any, the first two debates had on the poll results. Spitzer and Stringer's first debate aired Sunday (Aug. 11) on TV, while their second debate aired Monday (Aug. 12) evening.
