Two patrol officers in Jersey City were attacked by a man standing in front of a house with a sharped, 6-foot long fence post at around 2:30 a.m. Tuesday morning.

When the officers saw the man with the sharp object, they ordered him to put it down. Instead he came charging at the police car and threw the sharpened stick through the window, which hit one of the officers in the head.

The suspect allegedly leaned into the car and attempted to grab an officer's gun as well, causing a round to go off. When the suspect continued to refuse to comply with the officers, one of the officers shot him.

The suspect was taken to the hospital and is being treated for his gunshot wound, but expected to survive.
