There are severe flooding conditions on Long Island this morning, following a severe rain storm overnight.
More than 10 inches of rain has fallen on Islip since midnight and the eastern and central part of the island are in no condition for driving. The rain also led to delays on the Long Island Railroad.
At the height of the storm, rain was falling at a rate of 1 to 3 inches per hour. It was so intense that records were set in some parts of the tri-state.
Low lying areas throughout the area have been plagued with flooding issues. In Union, New Jersey, a family escaped injury when a tree fell on their home on Spring Street.
Flood warnings and flood advisories remain in effect for parts of the area through the morning. The good news is that the water has begun to recede in parts of New Jersey.
