The polls are now open for New Jersey's special Senate election. Gov. Chris Christie set the date for today, Oct. 16, just three weeks before he will face his own re-election. It remains to be seen how voter turnout will be for the unusual Wednesday vote, featuring Democratic candidate and Newark Mayor Cory Booker against Republican candidate and former Bogota Mayor Steve Lonegan.

Both candidates are vying for the Senate seat that opened up following the death of Sen. Frank Lautenberg. The most recent poll by Quinnipiac University released on Tuesday showed Booker ahead of Lonegan 54-40 among likely voters.

Polls for today's election will be open until 8pm.
