After testing free agency, Carmelo Anthony has decided to resign with the Knicks.
“In the end, I am a New York Knick at heart. I am looking forward to continuing my career in Orange & Blue and to work with Phil Jackson, a champion who builds championship teams,” Anthony said in a statement on his website.
Anthony considered several offers from other teams, most notably the Los Angeles Lakers and Chicago Bulls. The 30 year old star said he owed it to himself and his family to explore all his options.
“Through it all, my heart never wavered,” Anthony said.
The Knicks acquired Anthony in 2011 in a trade with the Denver Nuggets. It was a deal that brought the Brooklyn native home to New York.
“This organization has supported me and in return, I want to stay and build here with this city and my team,” Anthony said.
Anthony is reportedly taking less than the maximum 5 year, $129 million contract in order to give the Knicks some salary cap flexibility.
